Description
Dragonwell (Longjing) is one of China’s most famous and historically prized green teas, known for its distinctive pan-fired character and chestnut sweetness. Poorer examples can be thin, overly astringent, and lack depth, but this 2025 spring harvest Longjing offers a balanced and satisfying expression at a sensible price point.
The liquor is smooth and gently textured, with a clear roasted chestnut note that lingers through the finish. There is good body for a green tea, without harshness, making it both approachable and rewarding to brew.
This tea is versatile and responds well to different brewing styles. Prepared in a larger teapot, it delivers a fuller, more pronounced chestnut character. Brewed in a tall glass with water around 85°C, the leaves can be left to infuse for approximately 60 seconds, then topped up and re-brewed several times. Gong fu brewing produces a lighter body with more delicate, refined notes, ideal for a slower, more contemplative session.
A well-made spring Dragonwell that captures the classic profile without excessive bitterness, suitable for both everyday drinking and careful brewing.
