Description
Vintage East Java Sandalwood Oil – Single Tree, Santalum album
Total distillation yield: 150 ml
This sandalwood oil is distilled from the same Vintage East Java sandalwood material we offer in-store — a selection originally set aside for its exceptional aromatic intensity among a large pool of high-grade wood. When first warmed, the clarity and power of this particular tree stood out immediately, prompting a dedicated, small-scale distillation in Java.
Only a handful of top-tier kilograms from this single sandalwood tree were deemed suitable for extraction, resulting in an extremely limited and unrepeatable oil.
Aroma Profile
The opening presents a soft, refined woody base with a gentle brightness — hints of fresh, citrus-leaning wood and the faintest touch of natural sweetness. As the oil settles on the skin, its true character begins to emerge.
After around ten minutes, the drydown takes centre stage: a luminous citrus-wood signature unique to this tree becomes fully expressed, layered over smooth, mature sandalwood depth. The result is an elegant yet commanding oil with exceptional clarity and presence.
Sandalwood aroma varies not only by country and region, but by individual tree. A single-tree sandalwood oil captures the exact aromatic fingerprint of that one source — something that cannot be recreated or blended back into existence once gone.
Those familiar with single-origin teas will understand the parallel: just as individual tea trees express distinct and highly specific profiles, so too does a single sandalwood tree reveal its own unmistakable voice.
This distillation yielded just 150 ml in total. Once sold, it cannot be repeated.
