2024 ‘Firefly’ Assamica #blacktea . 100% Single estate Yiwu Assamica Black tea. The garden this tea was picked from has fireflies at night time!
Light fermentation creates a refreshing summer Black! Taste wise you could suggest this tea to be the ‘Little bro of our Yiwu Gushu black’. Flavour wise it’s not as deep and forward but rather light, easy going and Refreshing. Expect relatively low astringency with Apple juice, some slight ‘white tea’ vibes early on. Texture is smooth enough. You may notice some returning sweetness around the cheeks during sips. Later infusions become more sweet.

An interesting tea, this one. Taste wise, it has characteristics of a black tea with shades of a sheng puer. I wonder if some fermentation has taken place. The taste didn’t grab me immediately but it grew on me. What did grab me immediately was the qi, which I would describe as relaxed and dreamy. I’ve only experienced this effect from one or two other teas over the years. To me this is not a daily-drinker of a black tea, but something to savour when the mood and circumstances are right.
