If you think you know how great a citrus puerh tea can taste…think again!

Mrs G was blown away with this new offering! Created with the very best Chinese tangerines and aged to perfection! Guangdong is home to the famed ‘Xinhui‘ tangerines. The best in China. The very best of which come from Chakeng (茶坑) and Tianma (天马) regions. They offer the deepest of flavour compared to any other and age extremely gracefully merging flavour with the tea. These large red tangerines are harvested from a prominent orchard in Xinhui around the winter solstice, typically in mid to late December.

Using aged Menghai region ripe Puerh nuggets (Laochatou) that was most likely around 5 year old at time of stuffing. Laochatou are nuggets of tea created during the wet piling procedure.

How to explain this incredible taste? It’s got slight earth from the puerh, but the general taste has melded into something completely different. It’s not puerh and it’s not citrus. It’s almost kinda like frankincense. There’s a buttery finish that lingers and the liquor is soft and lubricating.

Also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine these tangerines can tackle stomach issues, aid in boosting digestion and relieving scratchy throats. These specific tangerines also have a cooling effect on the body. You can actually eat the tangerine rind when your done, it’s good for you!

Age can do wonders to this little things. Over time the favours of the tea fuse with the citrus and taste deepens becoming more enhanced and melded together. These balls are much more infusable than their more economic counterparts.

brewing is simple, no different to any other Ripe Pu Erh. You can opt to split one citrus into two sessions or with a large gaiwan or teapot throw the whole thing in and enjoy! Make sure to include the citrus Pieces!!

if you decide to further age these balls it’s best to leave them in a glass container, separate from your other puerh. It’s recommended not to add any further humidity, these balls should age fine just as they are! The citrus featured in the video below are smaller previously stocked 2015 balls.
