Description
White tea is categorised when harvested into several grades: Silver Needle, White Peony, Gong Mei & Shou Mei. Shou Mei (being the most broad) carries the deepest of flavour. This cake is entirely 2006 Fuding area Shou Mei White tea that has been aging in Guangdong for most of its life. We originally sourced this tea back in 2018 from Fancang tea market always from the same dealer and thought it was out of stock until he discovered a case hidden away at the back of his shop! We’ve witnessed this cake grow over the years. It started out life as very average material but time and humidity has created this deep cake that’s bursting with fruity storage notes!
THE TASTE:
Aroma of dark fruit and raisins in the warm gaiwan. Strong syrupy aroma of dark fruits and raisin with a touch of aged note of the rinse.
Starting out with a light golden broth, The aroma mirrors the taste perfectly with a clear dark fruit, raisin. Infusion two onward sees more sweetness collecting around the cheeks. The flavour deepens annd the broth darkens after a few infusions and shows light aged notes that really compliment the fruit. The flavour of this tea comes through clearly, acutely and cleanly. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded. You can push this tea out, it’s very forgiving. After a few infusions try boiling it up for 2-3 minutes for a deep fruity flavour bomb!
2006 Fuding material pressed in 2008 and repackaged in 2014.
